To get my input on Windows Vista, Microsoft offered to loan me an Acer Ferrari 1000 with the release to manufacture (RTM) version of Vista Ultimate, a Vista pizza with every feature of the OS included. The notebook would also come with the RTM version of Office 2007. Who could resist? I told them to send it with all due speed.

RIAA sues AllofMP3 for $1.65 trillion

The RIAA is seeking $150,000 for each of the 11 million songs AllofMP3 allegedly pirated.

It was first reported by the Washington Post last week that the RIAA was suing the Russian online music distribution company Mediaservices, which owns AllofMP3.com and allTunes.com, for illegally selling copyrighted music.

The companies behind the claim, which include the major record labels Arista Records LLC, Warner Bros. Records Inc., Capitol Records Inc. and UMG Recordings Inc., filed the suit in a New York federal court claiming that "...Mediaservices' sites sell millions of songs by their artists without paying them 'a dime' for the right to do so."

Apple takes $84 million charge, defends Jobs

Apple Computer released new information about its allocation of stock options on Friday, defending Chief Executive Steve Jobs following speculation that a key document had been forged.

In its delayed annual report, published early on Friday, Apple said it would restate its financial results for the last three years and also take a charge of $84 million.

Apple also said that while Jobs was "aware (of) or recommended the selection of some favorable grant dates, he did not receive or financially benefit from these grants or appreciate the accounting implications."

FCC approves AT&T-BellSouth merger

The Federal Communications Commission approved the roughly $86 billion megamerger between AT&T and BellSouth on Friday, ending a partisan standoff.

The commission, which had been split between Democrats and Republicans for months on what--if any--conditions should be imposed on the merger, accepted conditions that AT&T had proposed in a formal letter sent to the commission on Thursday. The merger was approved by 4-0 vote.
